Demonstration Garden Highlights July & August 2011

In July 2011 Y Gardeners worked to complete the irrigation system so that we can weather the upcoming summer months in San Francisco. Special thanks to volunteers Coy Ellison & Joseph Asberry for their expert assistance.
We sponsored the first of a series of field trips to San Francisco State University Biology Greenhouses for Youth, Teens and Seniors. We're learning about horticulture and the Mediterranean Biome and participating in the international Great Sunflower Project. Thanks to greenhouse manager Martin Grantham for his ongoing support. Container Gardening Workshops were kicked off, bi-monthly, on July 12 & 26. This group explores innovative ways to cultivate containers of vegetables, flowers and herbs for garden & home. The Garden Book Club met on July 21 at 12:30. We all read different books and discuss our ideas together in person and online.Thanks to Bird & Beckett Books of Glenn Park for sponsorship! Kindergardeners (aged 2 - 4) visit weekly on Tuesday & Thursday mornings.
